The Stratford film of Coriolanus is a highly acclaimed production of Shakespeare’s play, directed by Robert Lepage. The film is staged at the Stratford Festival and was named on many 2018 year-end critics’ “best of” lists.

The story revolves around the Roman War hero Martius, also known as Coriolanus. Despite being a great soldier, Coriolanus is not a politician and faces enemies who fan the flames of populism against him, leading to catastrophic results.

The film explores the age-old tensions that still tear at the heart of democracy. It’s a unique blend of classic and contemporary, with inspired sets and theatre design. The performances are strong throughout, making Shakespeare’s work timeless and relevant.
